He who watches over you is with you

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, (Psalms 91:1-5)

The Lord in His grace never leaves us nor forsakes, and yet in the storms of life it can be hard to see the presence of God. Jesus is God with us (Immanuel), and while in the natural it can be hard recognise Him during difficult times, He remind us He is not only with us, but has indeed gone before us. God in His grace sends us signs to build faith in His watchful presence.

He also calls us in these moments to draw nearer to Him, to come under the shadow of His wings. In the darkest hours, He reminds us that as we press closer to Christ, to seek Him, and we will find this place of refuge.

However, it is perhaps more confounding that before we walk into the valleys of life, His is watching and walks through these times of battle and darkness with us. While it is natural to seek God’s will to avoid suffering, in can be the case that often it is for our walk of faith, and His divine purposes, that He allows it to play out. While He promises suffering and tribulation in this world, He reminds us He has overcome the world. His victory, causes us to triumph over the world as we are found in Him.

Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalms 103:1-5)

With even more clarity than the eagle, the Lord sees our yesterday, today, and tomorrow with crystal clarity, and meets us in all them, goes before us, and prepares us for what is to come, and meets us before we enter in to each new season, assuring us He will meet us in tomorrow.

Jesus revealed, that He will send us on a journey that can bring storms, but that we will make it to the other side. He reveals Himself to present in the journey, watching over us during the storms, meeting us in our point of need, and bringing us to the other side. (See: Mark 4:35-39; Luke 8:22-25; Matthew 14:22-33).

God is watching over us, and as we wait on Him, He causes us to be renewed like eagles. He meets with us before tomorrow comes, and wait there for us, while also walking through our today. He is ever present, ever loving, and His destiny is His word.
