Through His eyes

Our challenge…is to not find our confidence in how others perceive us, or in our own appearance or acts, but rather in how Jesus Christ knows us. While we may be ‘dark but lovely’ due to the life we have led, or the actions of others, He looks with eternity’s eyes and is moved with great love for us. The more we gaze on Him so do we learn to know this wonderful, healing view, and are transformed in to that beautiful likeness.

The Beloved

Behold, you are fair, my love! Behold, you are fair! You have dove’s eyes.

The Shulamite

Behold, you are handsome, my beloved! Yes, pleasant!

Also our bed is green. The beams of our houses are cedar, and our rafters of fir. I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

The Beloved

Like a lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.

(Song of Songs 1:15 – 2:2)

The Shulamite

Rightly do they love you. I am dark, but lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon. Do not look upon me, because I am dark, because the sun has tanned me. My mother’s sons were angry with me; They made me the keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have not kept.

(Song of Songs 1:4b-6)

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

(Psalms 118:9)

And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

(1 John 2:28)

Face to face

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

(1 Corinthians 13:11-12)

So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”

(Genesis 32:30)

The walk of grace

The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters.

Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face.

Selah

(Psalms 24:1-6)

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

(1 John 1:7 – 2:2)

Not alone

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Know the Gate, for broad is His abode

There is a place that is boundless, even unto eternity, but the way there is narrow, and the Gate we need to know. I guess it makes sense, a place of perfection needs a perfect people, and in reality there is but One who can perfect us. The beautiful thing is that the key is receive His love, and in kind walk with Him. A small but sacrificial price to pay in order the exchange this life with it bounds, with one of eternal freedom in Him.

Thank God for grace. For when we stumble He is there to pick us up.

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

(Matthew 7:13-14)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

(John 14:6)

He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me.

(2 Samuel 22:20)

And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?”

And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, I do not know you, where you are from,’ then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out. They will come from the east and the west, from the north and the south, and sit down in the kingdom of God. And indeed there are last who will be first, and there are first who will be last.”

Heaven’s scent

Thousands of years ago the Israelites were given the design of God’s temple they were to build (by the creator Himself), and covering the walls amongst the palms and angels were flower buds and blooms in the places representing the very throne of the Lord. As the Bible reveals all were just shadows of heaven, and so the question, ‘are there flowers in heaven?’ is answered..

The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with ornamental buds and open flowers. All was cedar; there was no stone to be seen…..Then he carved all the walls of the temple all around, both the inner and outer sanctuaries, with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers.

(1 Kings 6:18,29)

….since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”

(Hebrews 8:4b,5)

Consummation

Ever noticed just how similar the sun and light looks at sunrise and sunset? I guess if you if you woke from a deep slumber, and looked to the sky, without a time piece and a sense of direction you could easily confuse the two bookends of the day.

And yet, sunset is much more different from sunrise, and does signal the end of a chapter. So too it is for many of us now. One chapter comes to an end, and a new one is starting. The Lord God seems to be saying we are entering a time of consummation, while often linked to a wedding, it also means ‘the point at which something is complete or finalized.‘ Like the wedding version though, this can be a very good thing!

Let us perceive the season we are in as 2020 unfolds, for the consummation of promises and the season that we were is upon us, where the trials of our last chapter will make sense as the Lord ushers in to our lives a new day. Patience and hard fought perseverance will see justice’s reward.

I have seen the consummation of all perfection,

But Your commandment is exceedingly broad.

(Psalms 119:96)

The Mighty One, God the Lord, has spoken and called the earth from the rising of the sun to its going down. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth.

Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent;

A fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous all around Him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that He may judge His people: “Gather My saints together to Me, those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.” Let the heavens declare His righteousness, for God Himself is Judge.

Selah
