The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out:
“Hosanna!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
The King of Israel!”
Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:
“Fear not, daughter of Zion;
Behold, your King is coming,
Sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.
(John 12:12-16 NKJV)
Let us remember the significance of this day…for it foreshadows the return of the King of kings. As the palm branches were laid before Him, with clothes, and held high in the air, with cries of Hosanna, let us remember He comes.
He came as the Servant King, seat on a colt (Zechariah 9:9), He come will come again as the Victorious King seated on the White Horse (Revelations 19:11-15), with the sword that strikes the nations, while welcoming His children.
Let us remember the that not no before the Palm Sunday event, when Christ entered Jerusalem, that He raised Lazarus from the dead..for shadowing His own resurrection,.
Let us remember the anointing of His feet by Mary the day before Palm Sunday, where this precious gift of love both revealed that which laid ahead of Christ within the next week, and also reminded all that He is the Anointed One, the Messiah.
Let us remember the cleansing of the temple in the days that followed, and the fresh declaration by Christ, “My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves”, and know that He cleanses His Church, His Bride, in readiness for His return…for He can only come to a holy one.
Remember, that once and for all He shed His blood on Good Friday, and now in and through Crist, in covenant relationship with Him, we also abide in the covering of His blood, which has made us righteous with Him, and compels righteousness in us.
Remember that in the palms, He has revealed the season of His coming…at Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:40, Nehemiah 8:15).
Remember that in the palms He reveals that He is the Temple and Tabernacle of God, the Head of the Church. (1 Kings 6:29,32; Colossians 1:18)
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Hosanna in the highest!”
