Amos 5:11-12Therefore, because you tread down the poor And take grain taxes from him, Though you have built houses of hewn stone, Yet you shall not dwell in them; You have planted pleasant vineyards, But you shall not drink wine from them. For I know your manifold transgressions And your mighty sins: Afflicting the just and taking bribes; Diverting the poor from justice at the gate.
As we ponder Amos 5, we see something that is lies close to the heart of our Lord, and something that He watches over with intent as His return approaches – justice for the poor, and a heart for good.
God will deal with the injustices to the poor, as well as greed and avarice.
We are to seek good and not evil, that we may live, so the Lord of hosts will be with us, as we have spoken.
Hate evil, love good, establish justice in the gates…those are simple commands. And yet, as we can see in the world, often the opposite o the three elements seems to be the only think established. Let us turn again to the truth.
Seek the Lord and live!
Remember, we are woken to join with Him as He watches over His word to perform it.
