Australia and its sad day…but God is our redeemer

Sadly, December 7 in the year 2017 now marks a day where the Federal Parliament failed this nation…and is not one to celebrate. No amount of fancy foot work in parliament during the same sex marriage (SSM) debate, or convincing defensive arguments can alter that, and most of all the failure of the leaders of the main parties to honour their commitment to protect our freedoms will be echo through time. This sadness further compounded when considering that in November 2017 over 61% of the population of Australia voted in support of same sex marriage, despite a well run campaign to hopefully educate them that this was not what would support a healthy society, and particularly the future of a children, and also made in clear that God does not support this view. The many voices from the Christian faith, as well as Jewish and Muslims, made this clear, and yet the people and parliament of this nation voted against God’s will.

All this signified a shift in the nation, and not one for the better….but God is bigger than all these forces, and by His grace and mercy He will redeem the nation for His purposes, but the road to redemption will be a tumultuous one. Through it our hearts, and that of the nation, are cleansed and renewed, and we become emboldened to share His love, and to declare His word with our mouths and in our actions.

The decision about legalising same sex marriage may seem an isolated one, and yet is really a particular culmination of decisions and events that has seen a considered attack on children, the traditional family, and a disregard of our Lord Almighty. Many choosing to walk away from God, and choose a lifestyle that is about themselves, and their own desires, with out any real due consideration forth future of the nation, and the generations to come, or fear of God. As a society our moral decline is accelerating, as to greed, lust, the worship of man and money. Many may still say there is a higher power, however in reality they live their lives according to ever decaying benchmarks of social norms, of redefined by forces of humanism or even evil, as it seems it is ok for socialist and communists to influence our laws according to their morals, but not those of the Judeo-Christian background.

In addition, fundamentally this decision around SSM is also much more profound as it really targets the profound truthes that Jesus Christ is returning for His Bride (the spotless Church), and that it is God who defines love, including the covenant of love in marriage, not humankind.

Those parliamentarian and citizens who supported the SSM legislation will know that despite their statements the following religious leaders did not support their point of view: the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney, Glenn Davies; the Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, Anthony Fisher; the Catholic Archbishop of Hobart, Julian Porteous; the Maronite Bishop of Australia, Antoine-Charbel Tarabay; the President of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Australia, Jorge Munoz and the Moderator-General of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, John P Wilson, the National President of Australian Christian Churches, Wayne Alcorn; the National Ministries Director of Australian Baptist Ministers, Keith Jobberns; the National Leader of the Apostolic Church Australia, Wayne Swift; the Senior Minister of the Life Ministry Centre, Graham Nelson and the National Chair of the Assembly of Confessing Congregations within the Uniting Church in Australia, Hedley Fihaki, The Primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, Archbishop Stylianos, the Senior Priest for the Coptic Orthodox Church in NSW, Tadros El-Bakhoumi and the Executive Assistant to Bishop Suriel of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Melbourne. These church leaders wrote to the nations leader prior to any finalisation of the legislation, and yet there were no amendments allowed to occur throughout the debate, something that never occurs with such contentious legislation.

In addition to the above many voices have raised concerns, and yet in reading of the notes provided by those parliamentarian support the legislation unchanged sent simply clarified that the parliament has not really protected our religious or freedom of speech rights, and you have codified something that means a person can be prosecuted for disagreeing with a law that supports the lifestyle of a small minority of the population, and yet is opposed by a much larger percentage, and the even larger percentage who believed you would protect their rights of religious and free speech. This latter group will realise over the next year or so how much you have let them down. The focus was on religious freedoms for ministers of the cloth, and not Christians.

A basic tenant of the Christian faith is that all believers are ministers for Christ, and as such can proclaim its message through act and word, and this is not just limited to the licensed reverend or pastor. The legislation passed, and previous related items, seem to isolate any real religious protections only for a denominations titled ministers, not all of us a lay-people and ministers of the faith.

In addition, God is love, and He defines it, not man or woman. Sadly in society today we have contorted love in to a definition that suits whatever we want to do. The covenant love between a husband and wife is very different than that between a son (or daughter) and their father (or mother), and yet because of abandonment, abuse, or intentional teaching to create confusion, some now seek to mix it all up to satisfy either the humanist manifesto, or a hedonistic lifestyle, or as a way to try and explain very real but confused feelings born out of broken relationships.

The parliamentarians and citizens of this nation who supported the intent of the SSM bill, and this legislation without amendment, have failed this nation at its moment of great test. You all now stand before God who calls same sex sexual relationships a sin, as He does also adultery, and yet you have made SSM law in this nation. In the end it is not I, or all the others who oppose this move that can really judge your actions, although we will at the next election, it is God. Will you seek mercy? If so remember repentance looks like something. Sadly the actions taken by the Australian Parliament and many of its people late this year have set this nation on a tragic course, we need to remember that and not blame others,or God, for the result of our actions. The rejection of God and His hand of grace, is the decision of many in Australia. It seems as a nation we seek to increasingly rely on our own accord, and this sadly will be shown to be folly. States such as Victoria who support a completely anti-Christian Premier and government, have even the more thrown themselves in to the hand of darkness. My prayer is that Jesus will intercede for our rescue, despite our arrogant ignorance of our Lord, and His truth. Terror, fire, and disaster will be their lot for a season.

There is hope for our nation. God has declared this to be the Southland of the Holy Spirit, and prophesied over its future about its part in the end time revival, and so will not see our true identity destroyed by the rise of darkness. In addition, we need to be aware that God’s desire for all His children to be saved, and that in the sea of humanity, there comes a time where the gentleness and kindness of God makes way for the fear of the Lord as a compelling force for those seeking to turn to Him. Therefore we can expect to see prophets arising with the anointing of Elijah such that they are heard in the streets and cities, and by kings and leaders, and recognised by them as prophetic voices. These voices in fact may be recognised first by the world before churches as the religious spirits blind many from the truth prophetic unction (as they do not always tickle ears). Sign and events will increase that will cause people to ponder their eternal destiny (as the Lord Jesus Christ revealed in Matthew 24).

The nation is groaning under the sin of its people, and the forces of darkness encouraged and drawn in through the anti-God stance of some governments in the land, and decisions made by people to support these decisions, and so we have set ourselves on a journey that will see major demonic and natural disasters that will bring tears in our streets and on the land, and fear and anger rises due due to an increasingly godless society. The Lord will work all things for good according to His purposes, and so will turn around the outcomes of such events cause by the nation’s sins and evil, and see an uprising of those in faith. Tsunamis will come that bring both destruction and also revival. Both will be messy, but in it all a revitalised Bride (church) will arise, and many will see salvation.

In the meanwhile let us continue to pray and intercede for the nation and it church, and may His believers in Australia arise together in the unity of Christ, praying as led by the Holy Spirit, knowing that if His people would humble themselves and pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways, God will heal the land, and deal with His enemies in the land. Perhaps through our prayers this season will be shortened, and the pain reduced. He calls His people to a deeper connection with Him, and a renewed devotion to the Lord in pray and His word. From this place of abiding in His presence, we are call to go in radical obedience and love, holding true to His word, and build with God His house of prayer for all nations, knowing in doing so He creates towers of refuge for the regions we are placed in. He call us to be the Isaiah generation.

Isaiah 8:11-18

Fear God, Heed His Word

For the Lord spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying:

“Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’

Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy,

Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.

The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow;

Let Him be your fear,

And let Him be your dread.

He will be as a sanctuary,

But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense

To both the houses of Israel,

As a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

And many among them shall stumble;

They shall fall and be broken,

Be snared and taken.”

Bind up the testimony,

Seal the law among my disciples.

And I will wait on the Lord,

Who hides His face from the house of Jacob;

And I will hope in Him.

Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me!

We are for signs and wonders in Israel

From the Lord of hosts,

Who dwells in Mount Zion.
