Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:30-33)
See, a Son, yes even The First born Son, who is the chief cornerstone, is revealed. Heaven rejoices as the Father declares to His creation now is the time to see. Now, Christ Jesus, the one on which the whole foundation of creation is reliant on, (who through which it was created, and is the Cornerstone of it all), is revealed to His children on earth. No longer the whispers and intent of ancient prophecy, rather a revelation delivered first by His messenger Gabriel, and then in another package, wrapped up in swaddling cloth, in the arms of Mary and Jospeh – the ultimate Christmas present.
I will praise You,
For You have answered me,
And have become my salvation.
The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the Lord’s doing;
It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalms 118:21-24)
Such a mystery, deeper than any ocean, higher than any mountain, and yet His servant Mary just takes it all in, and in faithful obedience says, “Let it be according to your word”. Did she really understand it all, one can only suggest that is unlikely, but did she need to? Knowing God had announced the coming of the Messiah, the one who would save the world, and who is God, is certainly enough for her to know, and even brilliantly accepting immaculate conception. She saw.
In the courts of heaven the hosts and angels rejoiced on this day the Lord has made. Gabriel so thankful that He could deliver such a powerful word full of hope, and life, to two humble servants…Mary and Joseph. A message that in many ways carries the same news today, asking us, “Do we see The Son, the Cornerstone, slain from the foundations of the world, that He could prepare a place for us? Will we receive this gift, the ultimate everlasting present?”.
May our response be, “Yes Lord, be it according to Your word.”
And the mystery continues. Do we now continue to watch and see for His return? He promised it. Will we join with the spiritual birthing of such a miracle. Now we are called to intercede and prophecy in the watch for His return. The new Mary’s if you like. Knowing this time Christ comes not as a babe, but as the triumphant King. And yet He still looks to see if there is faith on earth, where are the ones who simply believe, and watch for His return. May Christmas time bring a fresh revelation to us all of Christ, the Son, our chief Cornerstone.
