Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:40-41)
But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ (Matthew 25:5-6)
Can you hear the cry to awake from your slumber, even the nudging arm of Christ, His call to awake. Like Peter, and His fellow disciples called to ‘watch and pray’ with our Lord, the Christ is coming to us, with angelic messengers, with the midnight cry to awake.
Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” (Matthew 26:64)
And why, He comes. Sure we do not know the very hour, but we are to watch and pray as if it could be tomorrow. We watch to to see Him prepare the final things for His return, where He prepares the kingdom of God to be given to His Father. He completes the work of putting an end to all rule and all authority and all power. He calls to His watchmen and intercessor to watch and pray with Him, for in this prophetic intercession it is established. This is a heavenly call, sustainable only by His grace and Spirit, and one prepared by humility, faithfulness, and devotion.
Wake Up! Watch and pray with our Lord Jesus Christ.
