Feet drawn without ceasing to a Babe in a manger, in a small town away from the notice of many. Yielded, focussed, some run, other tread wearily, but steadfastly. Those who intentionally make this journey know they have an encounter with much more than their minds can comprehend, the long promised manifestation of the glory of God, Immanuel. The Bible would tell us even many year before the birth of Christ other set out to meet this saviour…but their time passed before He arrived (and brought them home). And here we are today making this same pilgrimage to our figurative Bethlehem, to meet with the Christ child, and the host of heaven’s praises. And yet, like those two thousand years ago, we know this meeting is not the end goal, rather just a way point to our eternal destiny which Jesus has prepared for us. And so we continue this walk, drawn on by the glory of God.
Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
(Luke 2:4-7)
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
(Matthew 2:1-2)
So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
(Luke 2:15-16)
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
(John 14:1-6)
