I wonder, can we really grasp the tremendous events that will mark Christ’s return? I don’t think we can without God’s divine inspiration. Theologians, artists, writers, and many of us have pondered it, and tried to even capture it in pictures, and yet our mind perhaps cannot grasp the staggering contrasts that will occur. Worlds and the heavens shaken, global disaster like no other, days of woe, euphoria and jubilation of deliverance that has been hoped for over thousands of years, new heavens and earth, tears wiped away, long since parted saints joining with those of today, demonic armies cast down, kings and queens of the world raging against Christ and His people, mountains splitting, heavenly gatherings, and an enthroned Christ recognised by the whole world. And these are just a small part of those stunning days.
As the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, where He reigns forever and ever, stuff will happen, as many empire builders will resist, and many prideful hearts will sooner fight than surrender, and so many structures will need to be removed.
And how do we cope? By the power of His grace, and the mercies of God. We dig deeper, love more like Jesus, trust in God, keep our focus on Christ, and continually be filled with His Spirit. Freeing ourselves from religious structures made by mankind, choosing to centre our attention on Christ and His eternal plans, rejoicing in the transformation to come, where our immortality is completed, and being thankful that our closeness to God will be made even more real that breathing. Our joy made complete knowing that soon the Bride of Christ will be revealed to all, and the Bridegroom will come. And so, we endure, and in faith we stand.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:13,14)
When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake. So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. (Revelations 8:1-6)
