Stooping down on one knee, heads bowed, they gently kiss the outstretched hand. These kings of the world, societies’ giants, rulers of nations, religious and community leaders, corporate emperors, and more, find themselves humbled before the very one many had ignored, and some even fought against. Broken, they at least saw wisdom, and recognised the One who is truly the King. More than a benevolent ruler, He is the Christ, the Anointed Prince of peace, Almighty God. As thousands, even thousands upon thousands look on, these once giants can barely lift their faces to look upon His glory, and yet that is His desire. He looks to revelations’ kiss to open their eyes to see and believe, and so willing choose to abide in His presence, forsaking all that they gained on earth to arise into Heaven’s presence.
It is hard to look on and not be cynical about their motives. Can He not see how they once treated others, merely as steppingstones to be their own gods, seeking to build their own paths to heaven? Sure, some may have seemed to love Him, but really? Thankfully, He does not look with the eyes of sin, but knowing their hearts, He sees things not as they are but as they will be. Extending to them the same grace we all received. He did not fear Judas in His midst, and now as all kingdoms of this world submit to Him, He knows those who will receive the hand of grace, and those who will still choose fire. He simply asks us to remember His mercy, walk in His grace, and trust…Him.
Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.” (Matthew 2:7,8)
“I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. (Psalm 2: 7-12)
And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. (Zech. 14:16-19)
