As we consider the events unfolding in the world at this time, where developing nations are seeing awesome moves of God, and many souls won for Christ…but with great persecution; and in the developed world (particularly western countries) Christianity under attack, with secular and humanism forces openly attacking those of the Christian faith, seeking to silent its voice; we need to remember that the Holy Spirit is resident with us.
God has been using these events to prepare for His return, but also to shake out man made structures of compromise and control, to call us all back to Him, where in Christ we can all commune with the Lord as individuals and His big family. Christ came to set us free, and He will not stand by and see His children be bound up again by Satan and the system of religion and control that the governments of man have sort to insert in the world and the church. We need to pursue Christ afresh, in relationship, and particularly in prayer…overflowing to those around us in supernatural love and power.
Importantly, though, there is a very strong sense that the Holy Spirit is going to move in power and once again manifest Himself as the Spirit of grace and supplication. Consider these verses from the Bible (NKJV version).
Zechariah 12:10
“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.”
John 16:7-11
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.”
Here the God the Father, and the Son (Christ), reveal to us the power of Grace, and it’s agent..the Holy Spirit. It is time to call out to the Lord to release this Spirit afresh over the unsaved and saved. The Spirit of grace and supplication sees movement of repentance and holiness. He has been brooding over the surface of humanity, and in the pure mercy and unmerited favour of our loving Father in heaven, He will be released to see a great many turn their hearts afresh to the pierced one, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Be warned leaders of the Church, the move this will create cannot be hosted by controlling structures that seek to place a dependency of man made governance structures, or even Old Testament like priestly roles. God loves HIs church, one where Christ is the only head, and all its members stand equal before Him, and commune directly with Him, and a part of a truly loving, honouring, self sacrificing family.
Be warned saints, for we cannot sit back and expect such a move to allow us to let other people (usually church leaders) seek God for us, nor continue in our own way rather than being fully led by the Holy Spirit, not demonstrate true love, and expect the enemy of our souls to leave us alone. The great reward of the movement, and indeed our heavenly, intimate destination of being home with God, requires us to rest in His grace and mercy, to unashamably come into His presence, and allow Him to lovingly free us of all that hinders us from being close to Jesus believing and trusting He knows what we are best designed to be; and live a life of power and love by His Spirit that is self sacrificing, really looks likes something, and contends well with Satan attacks knowing it is Christ in us that makes us more than conquerors, and Jesus has victory in all things.
So let us pray, Almighty God, loving Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, by Your mercy and grace alone, let the Holy Spirit move in the Spirit of grace and supplication, so that your children do mourn for the Pierced One afresh, see in Him freedom from sin, and judgement, and the freely available gift of the righteousness of God, and receive adoption in to the holy family of God. Amen.
