I said to the LORD: “You are my God; Hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD. O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle. Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; Do not further his wicked scheme, lest they be exalted. Selah (Psalms 140:6-8)
The Lord continues to impress the urgency for prayer in the time marked by the Olympics Games, where nations gather to compete (and some say battle) on the sports fields, for ‘wars and rumours of war’ are gathering momentum. Recent, very public announcements, perhaps highlighting this need, and thus the call for our shields of prayer to be up. Encouragingly, the Lord does not call us to pray, unless He intends to answer.
So pray about war as this Holy Spirit leads, know His will for intercession, for the Lord God’s purposes will be fulfilled at this time.
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. (Proverbs 16:18-19)
Those proud and bellicose nations, influenced by the Bear and the Dragon, need to understand that the Lord will humble the haughty, and their pride will go before a fall (and stumbling). However it is true, we all need to humble ourselves before the Lord, turning afresh to Him, and seek His mercy, for the sins of the nations have made us vulnerable to the influences of evil and greed. But, the Lord is faithful, and through Jesus Christ our Saviour, the path to peace and righteousness has been made.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
